Forms of nails for manicure: varieties, names and photos

Do you still not distinguish "almonds" from "stilettos" or do you not know what a "ballerina" is? Then this article is for you! We tell you about the varieties of nail forms for manicure - with names and photos!

What are the forms of nails

You can cut your nails as you like - no one can limit your imagination. But keep in mind that not all forms are equally comfortable and adapted to life!

Square

A classic square is a straight cut with sharp corners. It is ideally combined with a jacket or complex designs, but corners can be wrinkled over a long length.

Soft square

Here the corners and the cut line itself are slightly rounded, making the shape much more practical. Outwardly, it is very similar to an ordinary square, but you definitely will not constantly cling to stockings or scratch loved ones.

Oval

This soft and practical nail shape is the most popular, as it is comfortable in everyday life and is suitable for any design. The oval makes it easy to correct different lengths of the nail bed and other minor problems.

A circle

A round shape is made when it is necessary to completely remove the length "under the root". In fact, the difference between a circle and an oval is only in the width and length of the nail plate.

Almond

Another very convenient and popular option that works best for long nails. Almonds are more difficult to break and hook, and they also hide if the nail bends or "bites" as it grows back.

Stylet

The stylet is difficult to saw out and wear, and it also requires a lot of length. So this is a rather extreme form of nails, although certainly very effective. Most often, long stilettos on Instagram are extensions for events or photo shoots.

Ballerina

Outwardly, the ballerina resembles an almond with a cut off and really looks like pointe shoes. This form is not very popular with us, but many Hollywood stars and celebrities adore it: from Kim Kardashian to Rihanna.

Pipe

The shape came to us along with arched modeling, and it can only be done by building. The bottom line is that a pronounced bend is formed at the free edge, due to which it is stronger and less likely to break.

Edge

Another extreme form of nails, unsuitable for everyday life. The free edge is built up using the same technique as the pipe, but sharpened at an acute angle - like a blade of a blade.

Lipstick

In the vastness of the network, you have probably come across beveled nails, shaped like a lipstick stick without a cap. This is the lipstick - a striking but also very impractical shape.

How to choose the shape of your nails

If you don't know what will suit you, and you want some kind of universal option, choose a soft square. For an everyday short manicure that grows neatly and imperceptibly, make an oval. It's also perfect for chubby fingers.

The round shape always looks neat and elegant - for the conservative fashionistas. But if you have very long and thin fingers, the circle looks unnatural.

An elongated square fits long fingers with a wide nail plate. And if you think your fingers are too short and want to visually lengthen them, you need almonds. You can try a ballerina or stilettos, but here it is important not to overdo it with length.

How to make a nail shape at home: useful tips

Of course, it is very convenient to come to the salon and leave in an hour with a perfect manicure. But can you do it yourself? We are confident that you can easily cope with the sawdust of the form if you follow these tips and tricks!

1. For a square or soft square, you need a free edge of at least a couple of millimeters.
2. The square is cut strictly in a straight line and in one direction - first horizontally, and then vertically.
3. The soft square can be cut in different ways.Someone finds it easier to round the corners of the square, while others find it easier to remove the top of the oval.
4. File the oval at a slight angle, approximately repeating the outline of the egg.
5. To saw off a neat circle, first visually mark a square for yourself, and start off from it.
6. Keep in mind that all nails have different lengths of the nail bed, so you cannot focus only on the free edge. Choose one for the standard, and grind the rest under it.
7. The length of the nail from the cuticle to the end of the free edge should be the same for six fingers: index, ring and middle. Little fingers can be slightly smaller and large fingers larger.

8. To make the shape of the nail even and symmetrical, take the center of the plate by the axis and do not look at the cuticle - it is by nature uneven.
9. Use nail files of different grain sizes. For removing the length - 100-150 grit, for grinding the shape - 200-250, and for polishing small defects - a grinding buff.
10. If you have no experience or want to try to cut out a new shape - paint your nails with a dark monochromatic varnish. At first, with a contrasting coating, it is easier to navigate and track minor imperfections.
11. Do not use forceps or scissors to trim your nails. It is actually faster, but it can damage, break, or delaminate the plate.
12. Start with the nail with the longest stock - usually the middle, ring, or index.
13. Always keep the nail perpendicular to the file so that the cut is not beveled. But you can move the file itself in different directions.
14. In the process, often touch your nails to each other to check the length and shape.
15. The lateral edges can be tapered and beveled, but the nail must not be sawed off completely at the finger roll. There is a high risk of damaging both the plate and the skin.
