Pickled onions are useful literally everywhere - as an appetizer, an ingredient for salads or an addition to any other dish. Of course, you can always just scald it with boiling water to get rid of the bitterness, but we found much more interesting recipes!
1. Pickled onions in a jar
A classic everyday recipe for meat, fish or just bread.
You will need: 600 g onions, 1 tsp. salt, 3 tbsp. 9% vinegar, 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, 2 tbsp. Sahara.
Preparation: Cut the onion into thin half rings or grate it. Add salt, vinegar, vegetable oil, sugar and mix well. Put the onion in a saucepan and put it on a small heat until it runs out of juice and settles. Cool the pot in a container of cold water and place the chilled onion in the jar. Put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours to brew.
2. Pickled onions without vinegar
Here we suggest replacing vinegar with lemon!
You will need: 2 onions, 50 ml of water, 1 tsp each. salt and sugar, 1 lemon, 1 tbsp. vegetable oil.
Preparation: Cut the onion into thin half rings, add 0.5-1 tsp there. lemon zest and move. Warm up the water slightly and dissolve the sugar and salt in it. Add lemon juice and oil there, mix again, and fill the onion with marinade for half an hour.
3. Pearl pickled onions
This recipe requires whole small onions such as shallots.
You will need: 500 g onions, 250 ml water, 100 ml 9% vinegar, 50 ml honey, 1 tsp. salt.
Preparation: Pour boiling water over the onion for 30 seconds, then rinse with cold water and peel. Boil water and add salt, honey and vinegar to it. Boil the onion in the marinade for a couple of minutes and transfer to the jar along with the liquid. Add spices to taste and leave in the refrigerator for 12 hours.
4. Pickled onions for barbecue
Add more aromatic herbs and spices to taste.
You will need: 230 g onions, 40 ml 6% apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon each. sugar and salt, 200 ml of water, herbs, spices.
Preparation: Heat the water a little and stir with sugar, salt and vinegar. Chop the onion into thin half rings and finely chop the greens. Put it all in a jar, sprinkle with spices, fill it with marinade and send it to the refrigerator under the lid for at least half an hour.
5. Pickled onions for herring
Use cloves, star anise, and mustard seeds as desired.
You will need: 1 onion, 400 ml of water, 2 tbsp. vinegar, 0.5 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. sugar, 0.5 tsp. white peppercorns, 2 bay leaves.
Preparation: Chop the onion, put in a jar, pour 200 ml of boiling water and leave for 40 minutes, and then drain the water. Boil the remaining 200 ml of water with spices and add vinegar to it. Pour the marinade on the onion and let it brew for another hour.
6. Red pickled onions with chili
A little hot pepper will add a special zest to the onion.
You will need: 600 g red onions, 2 tablespoons vinegar, 5 bay leaves, 1.5 tsp. salt, 1 chili pepper, 3 cloves of garlic, 2 glasses of water, 1 tbsp. sugar, 1 tsp. black peppercorns, 2 tbsp. vegetable oil.
Preparation: Add all the ingredients except vegetables to the water and bring to a boil. Boil the marinade for 3 minutes and put the onion rings in it, and after a few seconds turn off the heat. Add garlic and pepper rings to the jar, put onions in it, fill with marinade and roll up.
7. Pickled onions with pomegranate
This unusual appetizer goes well with red meat.
You will need: 2 onions, 1 pomegranate, 1 tsp each. sugar and salt, 1 tablespoon each apple cider vinegar and vegetable oil.
Preparation: Combine vinegar, oil, salt and sugar and marinate finely chopped onions in this mixture. After 15-20 minutes, add the pomegranate seeds, mix thoroughly, close the lid and refrigerate for a couple of hours.
8. Pickled onions with honey
Red onions are better suited to honey, but ordinary onions are also very original.
You will need: 1 kg of onion, 500 ml of water, 200 ml of vinegar, 100 g of honey, 1 tsp.salt, 5 peppercorns, 1 bay leaf, 4 cloves.
Preparation: Mix water, vinegar, honey and salt, boil the marinade, and add all the spices there. After a couple of minutes, add the chopped onion and boil until transparent. Place the onion and marinade in a jar and refrigerate for at least 12 hours.
9. Pickled onions with wine vinegar
Such a simple change in a classic recipe - and such a fundamentally new taste!
You will need: 1 onion, 300 ml red wine vinegar.
Preparation: Cut the onion into rings and cover it with wine vinegar so that the liquid covers it completely. Leave it on the table for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, and then put it in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
10. Pickled onions with mustard
In addition to mustard powder, add mustard seeds, which then burst pleasantly in the mouth.
You will need: 3 onions, 2 tablespoons 9% vinegar, 1 tsp. dry mustard, 2 tbsp. sugar, 1 tsp. salt, 100 ml of water.
Preparation: Stir sugar, salt and dry mustard in warm water, and lastly add vinegar. Chop the onion finely, fill it with marinade and let it brew under the lid for at least half an hour.
11. Pickled onions with soy sauce
The perfect pickled onion recipe for Asian dishes.
You will need: 6 onions, 2 chili peppers, 1 lemon, 240 ml water, 480 ml soy sauce, 200 g sugar, 240 ml apple cider vinegar.
Preparation: Chop the onion into large pieces and the peppers into rings and put them in layers in the jar. Heat water and add soy sauce, sugar and vinegar, and then boil for 5 minutes after boiling. Add lemon juice there. Pour the marinade over the vegetables and leave to stand under the lid for a couple of days in the refrigerator.
12. Pickled onions with carrots
And this is almost a full-fledged salad!
You will need: 2 onions, 1 carrot, 120 ml of apple cider vinegar, 60 ml of water, 1 tsp each. salt and sugar.
Preparation: Grate the carrots on a coarse grater, and cut the onion into half rings. Boil water and add sugar, salt and vinegar to it, warm up and remove from heat. Add vegetables to the marinade and leave under the lid for half an hour, and then put in jars and put in the refrigerator.
